"Bullets Over Hollywood" delves into America's fascination with gangsters and features historical perspective, analysis, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and details about the connection between real-life hoods and their cinematic alter egos. The documentary chronicles films such as the American Mutoscope & Biograph [us] film Musketeers of Pig Alley, The (1912) (the 1912 film directed by D.W. Griffith that began it all), 1930's and '40s classics including "Little Caesar," "The Public Enemy," "The Roaring Twenties," "The Petrified Forest" and "High Sierra," to such modern tales as "The Godfather," "Scarface," "Goodfellas," "Donnie Brasco," "Casino," "A Bronx Tale," "Carlito's Way," "Once Upon a Time in America" and many more. The special takes a look at television with shows such as "The Sopranos" and "Growing Up Gotti," all part of America's parallel fascination with fictional and real-life gangsters.

In October 1958, the Sicilian newspaper L’ORA coins the term “MAFIA” for the very first time to denounce the endemic organized crime in the region. Shortly thereafter, a bomb detonates in front of the editorial offices; only two days later the daily reappears with the headline: ‘The Mafia may threaten us, our investigation continues.’ Inspired by true events, L’ORA takes place in Palermo of the late 50 ́s and early 1960s. A young peasant, Aldo Contini, come to Rome in search of a job. In order to observe two women who are sunbathing on a terrace, he climbs up to a roof, not knowing that he is on the roof of a palace, in which has been killed a little girl. Forced to escape, on his own from the moment in which someone discovers the corpse, he is mistaken for the assassin and only the providential participation of a policeman succeeds in saving him from the furious vengeance of an angry mob. In possession of some clues, he is subjected to a brutal interrogation by the police, during which Aldo, after having uselessly protested his innocence of the crime, ends up confessing to the crime in front of the enquirers.
